Salad Dressing Recipes

Salad dressing is one of the crucial elements to a good salad.  I mean, sure… the lettuce is important (and we’ve all heard that the darker the leaf, the healthier it is), and adding in some extras like tomatoes, black olives, shredded carrots and green onions can certainly elevate the salad… but the star player is the dressing.

If you look at the market, there are rows and rows devoted to every salad dressing you can imagine.  Honey mustard, light Caesar dressing with bacon, home-style ranch… the variety is impressive, at best.

But before you buy any of those dressings…  I have a secret to share with you.

You can make your own salad dressing recipes at home, for a fraction of the cost, and it will be so much healthier.  No additives, food-dyes, preservatives or random ingredients are in homemade dressings, because you control what goes in it!  Below are some quick and easy salad dressing recipes so you can make your favorite dressing at home.

Easy Honey Mustard Dressing:

  •  5 tbsp raw honey
  • 3 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar

Whisk together ingredients in a small bowl, and enjoy.  If your dijon mustard has large mustard seeds, mix in a blender for a fine consistency.

Simple Balsamic Vinaigrette

  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • 3/4 cup good olive oil

Combine ingredients in a small bowl, whisk together and pour over salad, or use as a dipping sauce for chicken or beef.

Homemade Ranch Dressing

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp dried dill weed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a food processor, and blend until smooth.

Curry Dressing

  • 1.5 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • salt and pepper to taste

Mix ingredients together in a small bowl and drizzle over salad.

Bright Citrus Dressing

  • 1/4 cup balsamic dressing
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed juice from oranges
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • salt to taste

Whisk together all ingredients in a bowl until incorporated.

I live in New Mexico with my husband and my two-year-old daughter. After my daughter was born, I jumped on the “green and crunchy” bandwagon, and have been striving to eliminate toxic products from our lives. I make my own household cleaners and beauty products. I create wholesome, delicious meals from real food ingredients, and keep processed junk out of my home.

I have a background in finance, and strive to live a debt free life (although I have a ways to go). I enjoy reading, writing and living in ways that are environmentally friendly and frugal. I love taking pictures of nature, food and my daughter. I garden, I read labels, and I play the piano.

I believe by living simply and naturally, we become happy and healthy. If you’re into that kind of thing (and I assume you are, because you’re here, right?), please follow me on Facebook,Twitter, and Pinterest.
