This St. John’s (or Joan’s, depending on which herbalist you talk to) Wort oil is a favorite of herbalists to help reduce inflammation of the nerves, reduce nerve pain and neuralgia, help improve healing time of bumps, bruises, and scrapes. It is a great oil to have on hand for first aid, and makes a wonderful addition to salves, massage oils, and lotions.
This oil is made from freshly wildcrafted St. John’s Wort plant (Hypericum perforatum) infused by the light of the summer sun into organic olive oil. It is a deeply vibrant red color, and highly potent oil.
I use it in my Trauma Salve and Warming Salve to help support nerve health, reduce pain, inflammation and swelling, especially of the nervous system. It is also a wonderful addition to help bring more vibrant light and sunshine into an otherwise dull and dreary day. It can be a good addition to abdominal and breast massage oils, to help improve lymphatic flow and reduce inflammation, while supporting healthy liver detoxification (although tincture or vinegar extract is more helpful for liver detoxification and mood uplifting, the oil used externally doesn’t interact with medications, where the extract taken internally may.)
Some say St. John’s wort oil is good for sunburns, some say it causes photosensitivity. I would use it topically after sun exposure, but avoid it in direct sunlight if you have sensitive skin.
