“In my cup of tea
Crescent shadows of the moon
The hibiscus blooms”
Hibiscus is a delicious vibrant red drink that is used traditionally in tropical cultures for both food and medicine. We mostly use H. sabdariffa calyx (often referred to as flowers, but not technically true) in the United States, but H. rosa-sinensis flowers are used in Chinese medicine. Hibiscus is a wonderful cardiovascular tonic, helping to support healthy blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. It also helps to support healthy urinary tract function, and supports digestion. This is an herb that I love to give my hyper- tensive clients to help control their blood pressure, and support cardiovascular health. It is also a wonderful anti-microbial against food born pathogens, and anti-cancer.
